CAMPUS PERFORMING ARTS
It is shaping up to be an exciting year for Performing Arts on Campus! All of our students are involved in a dynamic program of Performing Arts classes, and there are also a range of wonderful extra-curricular experiences that students from all three schools will have the opportunity to be involved in. Additionally, we offer some fantastic Performing Arts ensembles, Instrumental lessons, and Advanced Music classes as per the opportunities outlined below. We look forward to seeing your children get involved!
Campus Performing Arts groups and ensembles
All groups/ensembles start in Week 3 – all interested students please meet in the Performing Arts Centre at the designated time. The first 2 sessions are “Come and Try”, so no commitment needed!!!
Junior Choir (Wednesday 10.05-10.50am)
This year Junior Choir will be open to Year 3-4 students. Each year we have an enthusiastic group of students who learn a fun repertoire whilst also learning new singing, ensemble and performance skills. Students who continue past the first two ‘Come and Try’ sessions are expected to commit to Junior Choir for the full year – they will have the opportunity to perform at Performing Arts Showcase, school assemblies, and community events throughout the year. Fees are kept very low at only $20 for the full year, which includes all repertoire and administration.
Senior Choir (Wednesday 1.30-2.20pm)
Year 5-7 students will have the opportunity to be involved in Senior Choir, learning choral skills and rehearsal techniques through exploring this year’s Festival of Music repertoire. They will have the opportunity to perform at the Southern Metropolitan Music Festival at Hopgood Theatre, and the Adelaide Festival of Music at the Adelaide Festival Theatre (Thiele students only). Campus supports the choir financially, providing repertoire books and CDs at no cost to participants. A commitment to participating for the first 3 terms is required, with optional attendance after the festivals finish (late Term 3/early Term 4).
Year 5-7s: Campus Band (Thursday 12.10-12.50pm)
Campus Band is open to Year 5-7 students who are learning to play an instrument, and have achieved a reasonable playing and note-reading standard to enable them to participate in an ensemble of this nature. Students are involved in learning a wide range of repertoire and play a range of instruments including keyboard, guitar, flute, drums/percussion, clarinet, violin and oboe. Fees are kept very low at only $20 for the full year, which includes all repertoire and administration.
Drama Club (rehearsal times to be advised)
Drama Club is open to Year 5-7 students, who work with Lauren Hood to develop their acting skills through a range of drama games and activities. There are also opportunities to be involved in the technical aspects of stagecraft, sound and lighting etc, later in the year when the Drama Club prepare for their annual performance in Term 4. All students are expected to commit to a full-year’s participation if they are selected to be involved in the final production.
Campus Dance Troupe (Monday lunchtimes)
Troupe is open to Year 5-7 students with an interest in dance and movement. Students involved learn elements of dance, choreography ideas and concepts, and routines that are then performed at Performing Arts Showcase and other events throughout the school year. As with all of our ensembles, attendance at all rehearsals and a commitment to the full year’s participation is required. Depending on numbers of interested students, auditions may be conducted to select students who will be offered a place for the year.
Advanced Music (Thursday lunchtimes)
Advanced Music classes are open to continuing and new students in Year 5-7 who show exceptional musical potential and/or interest. We focus on developing students’ musical notation and theoretical skills, which enhances their instrumental/vocal lessons and practice, and lays the foundation for participating in music at an advanced level over the years to come. Classes are usually by invitation only (at the recommendation of our Instrumental Music staff) however, if you would like your student to be involved please email me their name, year level and school, and musical experience at your earliest convenience.
Instrumental Music lessons
Each year Campus hosts an Instrumental Assembly on Thursday of Week 1, which gives our students the opportunity to learn about and hear the range of instruments and teachers we offer on Campus for Year 3-7 students. Recorder lessons are also available from Year 2 onwards. Interested students are given our Instrumental Program Booklet to take home to parents and caregivers – this outlines our program including costs, enrolment forms (for new students), etc. If your child is interested in learning an instrument through our program and did not bring a Booklet home, please collect one from the Campus Office.
Lessons for continuing students will start in Weeks 1-2 depending on the teacher. Lessons for new students will start once their instrumental teacher receives their enrolment form – they will contact you at this point to organise a suitable lesson time. Occasionally we experience a large number of new enrolments for a particular instrument and do not have an available teacher; should this occur for your child you will be notified and alternative arrangements discussed.
