From the Principal
Once again welcome back to a new school year with a special welcome to our new reception students, new students in other year levels, new staff to Nativity and new families. Amaya, Charlotte, Sophie, Tanya, Emily, Quinn, Lomatia, Connor, Cody, Kenji, Hudson, Callum, Cullen, Jack, Lily, Chloe, Sienna, Scarlett, Summer, Alia, Charlee, Matilda, Zorawar, Elijah, Cristian, Bob, Harry, Isak & Sonny in Reception. Taj (2D), Dennis (4/5BC), Kyren (4/5SP) and Onyx (MS) and our new staff members Lauren Broadbent, Michaela Sommers & Natalie Bampton.
This morning we held our welcome assembly to formally welcome these people to the community. I also had the opportunity to talk with the students about our theme for 2020-“Be the Difference”. That is, be someone who wants make the right choices so things are better as a result. This is especially true for those who maybe experiencing some sense of loss or difficulties in their lives. I mentioned how I had been contacted by School Aid, an Australian organisation, with a request for every school in Australia to make a $100 donation to the Bushfire appeal. If every school did, $1 million would be raised. This is something small from everyone that can make a difference so things can be better. Nativity has donated $100 on behalf of you all to this cause. Hopefully all the schools will respond favourably as well.
I would like to commend the staff on their preparation for a new school year. They have spent considerable time, in not only having the learning areas set up extremely well, but also established the structures for students to successfully transition to the next year level. It’s wonderful to observe students so settled over this first week in readiness for the learning opportunities that lie ahead.
Thank you to all families for your patience with the congestion of traffic around the Campus that comes at the beginning a of a new year. This has been compounded with the roadworks happening in front of the church. Please continue to be patient over the coming eight weeks until the roadworks are completed. Pedestrian lights will replace the flashing lights and there will be better access to Campus Drive and Hub Drive with the changes. This is intended to improve traffic flow and be safer for everyone.
A further letter has been sent families with an update regarding the Coronavirus. Please make sure you have read the contents as there are implications if you have travelled to the affected areas in the last 14 days.
I look forward to catching up with you all in the coming weeks and here’s to a successful 2020.
Kind regards
Greg Haynes
Principal
