What’s happening in 1S
During Term 3 we have been learning all about Japan with Mrs Molloy. We have been focussing on using the contents and index pages of non-fiction books. Here are some interesting facts we have learnt:
• There are Cherry Blossom festivals
• People in Japan wear kimonos on special occasions
• Sumo Wrestling is a popular sport in Japan
• The Bullet Trains go very fast, up to 320Km per hour.
• Japanese writing goes down the page and is read right to left
• There is a volcano that hasn’t erupted in more than 300 years
During Discovery we participated in different investigations to explore these facts further. We drew maps, made our own paper kimonos, drew cherry blossoms with oil pastels and recorded interesting facts from non-fiction books. Later this week Mrs Molloy is going to teach us how to make sushi…yum!
