GRANDPARENTS AND SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY FILM
As always, the Nativity students and staff have been very busy in Term 3, preparing for our annual Grandparents and Special Friends Day celebrations, which have become something of a highlight in our school year.
COVID-19 pandemic restrictions have meant that we have been unable to welcome our student’s families to visit our school. However, it was important to us to not let this stop us from producing something to share with you!
We considered following our normal format of a concert with an item presented by each class. To have the same number of visitors as past years would have meant approximately ten concerts instead of two or three- an impossible task! (Assuming the restrictions stayed consistent!) We considered live-streaming our concert, but we knew that the quality of a video recording done in this way would be very difficult to control, and potentially very frustrating to watch; and the students would not have the same experience as with a live performance.
So… what to do?! We’ve kept elements of our usual concert format- we begin with a prayer, and end with a whole-school finale song. Our prayer song is ‘The Blessing’, which has been recorded across the world by people in lockdown- it seemed appropriate for us to use this song as well. And our finale song is the upbeat ‘High Hopes’- which seemed to encapsulate our feelings about this year well- and we dearly hope to have visitors and families back at our school in the near future. In between these two songs, you will find a series of interviews, which we hope will give all our viewers a bit of a chuckle!
Despite all the challenges, our students have remained very enthusiastic about participating in rehearsals and the filming, and remained open-minded and accepting of all the changes imposed upon us. It’s been a great pleasure to work with the Nativity community again this year on this wonderful event. It’s our dear hope that our families will watch the film together and share it far and wide (especially with loved ones interstate and overseas). We hope you enjoy this year’s unique Grandparents and Special Friends celebration!
