From the Principal
Welcome back for the final term in a most unusual school year. A special welcome to the Mathew family starting at Nativity with Sera (Year 3) and John (Reception).
It is a strange feeling for myself, as I begin my final term as Principal of Nativity after twelve years and being a Principal in 3 different schools for the last twenty-four years. There are lots of thoughts and emotions as I look toward a new challenge. What exactly is still unclear. I am not retiring but I have accrued six months of long service leave which allows some time to explore the possibilities for a new challenge. Something will happen!!
There is still much to be done this term, especially with planning for 2021 and handing over to the newly appointed principal, Erika Dixon. All families were sent a letter from Director of Catholic Education, Dr Neil McGoran on the last day of term 3 with the announcement. I have spoken with Erika to organise times to meet the staff, students and parents in the coming weeks which will be circulated to the community in due course. Erika is looking forward with great excitement to lead the Nativity and Campus communities into the future.
Considerable time has been spent re-organising the end of year arrangements and how we run term activities due to the pandemic restrictions.
Please Note the following:
1) Assemblies for the term are as follows-
Week 3 – Year 1/2
Week 5 – Year 3-5
Week 7 – Reception/ Transition Little Stars
Week 8 – Middle School assembly
Numbers are still restricted. Parents of the students responsible for the assembly will be the only ones invited via an email in the week prior with RSVP. Erika Dixon will be present for the week 3 and week 5 assemblies.
2) The traditional Graduation and Thanksgiving Mass is not possible as there are only 150 people allowed to attend a Parish Mass. There will be a liturgy instead in the Performing Arts Centre which will be held during the day on Wednesday December 8th. Further information will follow closer to the date.
3) Carols Night will be held during the day as a school activity with a limited number of places for parents to attend. Parents will be informed of the arrangements once finalised.
4) The Graduation Dinner for the students finishing Primary schooling in Year 6 & 7 cannot be accommodated at the Flagstaff Hill Golf Club as their required Co-Vid Plan doesn’t cater for the number of people involved and the activities that are part of the evening. The Dinner is being held instead in the Performing Arts Centre instead with a very similar format. The parent committee is meeting this Friday after school at 3.30pm to begin the preparations.
A lot of time, thought and planning has gone into the changed arrangements which are beyond our control. We are fortunate here in South Australia our restrictions are somewhat limited compared to other places nationally and internationally, but changes have to be made. Thank you in anticipation for your support and trust in how we will celebrate the end of a school year in very unusual circumstances.
Kind regards
Greg Haynes
Principal
