What’s happening in RBB
In RBB, we have been learning about how we can be ‘Planet Protectors!’
As ‘Planet Protectors’ we have been thinking of ways we can reduce the amount of litter that goes in the landfill bin in our classroom.
We have been taking a closer look at the litter that we put in our classroom bin and had a go sorting the types of litter, thinking about the types of material it is made of. We were surprised to discover that almost all the litter that was in the classroom landfill bin could have been recycled in a different bin or reused in our classroom! Our new RBB Recycling Centre has helped us to sort out our litter. We now have a paper and cardboard bin, a bottle that collects small hard plastic waste, a soft plastics bin, a compost bin and a 10c bottle bin as well as our landfill bin. Our families have been helping us by taking us to recycle the 10c cans at our local recycling centre and the soft plastics at our local supermarket! As a class we will be voting on how we spend the money we have collected from the 10c cans.
We would love to hear how your family are being ‘Planet Protectors’ in your home and how you work together to reduce the amount of litter that goes into your red bin at home! Together we as a Nativity community, can help save our planet!
In Maths, we worked with a partner to record data on a graph, about what different types of materials were made from, and we further explored the properties of different materials when we reused recyclable materials to make our own boats. Testing our boats to see if they floated was super exciting and we reflected on what materials we used in our boats how this impacted whether they floated.
We have been eating a different colour of the rainbow each Wednesday as part of our ‘Eat the Rainbow’ program!
