Dear Families
Vinnies Christmas Food Appeal
Once again, we are supporting Vinnies’ Christmas Food Appeal. There will be an even greater call for support from families and individuals who are doing it tough, this year and we are asking for your help. One extra item in the trolley each week will go a long way in making someone else’s Christmas special. Think of the food that you like to eat at Christmas, those in need like to eat those things too! A special email is coming out soon with all the information that you need.
All Saints Day and All Souls Day
On November 1 the Catholic Church celebrates All Saints Day when we remember all the saints, known and unknown, who have gone to heaven. On All Souls Day the day after, we remember those who have died. November 1 is very special for me as it is the day my Dad left us to join his heavenly Father, eleven years ago. Our family have many sweet memories of my Dad, the man who loved his Lord, his family, his liquorice and his bargains. We still laugh over his many phone calls to speak to Bill Gates (my husband) because he had ‘lost his icons’ on the desktop, despite having two of everything in case they disappeared!
We all have times throughout the year when we remember our loved ones, sometimes on special dates like All Saints and All Souls Days but sometimes because an event has triggered a memory. My dad, his faith, his death and his continual battle with the internet came to mind when I discovered this beautiful song ‘The Sweetest Gift’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yFXfAGl17M&list=RD0yFXfAGl17M&start_radio=1
For all of you who are grieving and missing those whom you loved, and loved you, may you be comforted by these lyrics.
You’re with the Son of God
You’re with the Prince of Peace
You’re with the one who’s celebrating
And that thought amazes me
Sometimes I still break down
Grieving that we’re apart
But the sweetest gift is knowing where you are
Yes, the sweetest gift is knowing where you are
Yes, the sweetest gift is knowing you’re in his arms
You’re with the Son of God
Blessings
