From the APRIM
Dear Families,
First Eucharist Celebration Postponed
Yesterday, the Year 3 class celebrated Mass together, listening to the weekend’s readings for Christ the King. At the end of the Mass I turned to the two students operating the computer and said, “Just think, this is the last Mass that you will go to where you cannot have communion!” What a difference two and a half hours can make.
Twenty-six students from our school and parish were to complete their Sacraments of Initiation this coming weekend, by receiving Eucharist for the first time. The Sacrament Program team have worked solidly this week to change seating arrangements, guest numbers, get more COVID marshals, contact parishioners who had booked to attend Mass and work through endless logistics as the rules kept changing.
Such disappointment!!!!!
This has been a condensed program with families committing to attending weekly sessions for nearly three months. But all is not lost. First Eucharist will happen, we just do not know when. For all these families, especially the children, remember that Jesus promises to be with us always. Even though you cannot receive him in the Eucharist YET, he still loves you, cares about you and is with you.
St Vincent Christmas Food Appeal
The Gospel reading for the Feast of Christ the King (Matthew 25: 31-46) is a story that Jesus told of how people will eventually be judged by the way they lived their lives on Earth. Did they feed the hungry, clothe the naked, care for the sick, visit the prisoners? He explained that by looking after others, it is like looking after Jesus. “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me.” Our families have put this into practice by the abundance of food items that have been donated to the Vinnies Christmas Food Appeal. We will make sure that the food is delivered.
As I write in a VERY quiet school, I am reminded of two memes that have popped up on Facebook recently. The first is from Charlie Chaplin:
“If you see the moon, you will see the beauty of God…
If you see the sun, you will see the power of God…
If you see a mirror, you will see God’s best creation. So believe it.
We are all tourists, God is our travel agent who has already identified our routes, bookings and destinations… trust him and enjoy life.
Life is just a journey! Therefore, live each day.”
The other is an important reflection for us all:
“This is not the year to get everything you want. This is the year to appreciate everything you have.”
Stay safe, stay strong, stay connected.
