From The Principal
Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Nativity School,
The staff of our school really do work hard to create engaging and exciting learning opportunities for our students linked to the classroom curriculum. Last week it was a great privilege to attend the Campus Instrumental Night and see many of our students capably playing musical instruments for a large audience. Well done to all the students who practice their instruments and special thanks to Ally Cunningham and the Music Tutors who made the night a great success.
This week our Reception students who are learning about living things and the natural world visited the Hahndorf Farm Barn and the Year 3,4 and 5 students who have been learning about our place in space and our active earth had a Science incursion at school experiencing the night sky in beautiful glowing detail inside the Starlab portable planetarium. The Year 6 and 7 students completed a First Aid Course and are excited about participating in the SAPSASA Soccer Carnival on Thursday here on Campus.
The Year 5,6 and 7 students work in developing a Movie trailer with Flinders University is now really starting to take shape. The Year 5 students movie trailer is called “Rosemary versus Bellington -The Big Game” about 2 rival schools in a sporting competition. The Year 6 and 7 students movie trailer is about a person from the future going back in time to talk to people about the effects of eating fast food and is yet to be named. All students have shared their creative ideas and are working hard to research and survey others for information to add to their story.
This week we welcomed Nicholas Horton to our Nativity community. Nicholas will be teaching the Year 3 class when Emily Davis takes leave to have her baby. Nicholas will spend some time in the class over the coming weeks to get to know the students and to prepare for beginning his role in week 9 of this term. Please make Nicholas feel welcome when you see him around the school. We also have three Reception students beginning their transition to school in term 3. Isla, Jordan and MacKenzie will be joining us each Thursday morning until the end of the term, we are excited to have you as a part of our learning community.
Thursday, we celebrate a whole school mass with Fr Maurwa in recognition of 200 years of Catholic Education. During this time, Catholic Schools have grown to become the largest provider of schooling in Australia (outside Government schools) with one in five school age students attending a Catholic school. This represents 777,000 students in 1,775 schools across the country and employing over 100,000 teachers and staff. A Great achievement that we can all feel proud to be a part of.
In conclusion, some great news! Last Friday I received confirmation via email that the South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools (SACCS) has approved our play space development and the project will now go to tender as planned in June. I look forward to informing you of the date the play space construction will begin soon.
God Bless,
Erika
