Dear Families
Over the past couple of weeks, I have had an opportunity to reflect on the word ‘love’. It popped up repeatedly in the two books that I was reading about Mary MacKillop. The authors described her love for her father despite his failings, her love for her mother, her love for the work that she felt called to do and her great love for her God. It also described her love of the Church, in spite of all the hardships and challenges that were sent her way.
Pope Francis wrote that love is in the little details:
Let us not forget that Jesus asked his disciples to pay attention to details.
The little detail was that one sheep was missing.
The little detail of noticing the widow who offered her two small coins.
The little detail of having a fire burning and a fish cooking as [Jesus] waited for the disciples at daybreak.
A community that cherishes the little details of love, whose members care for one another and create an open and evangelizing environment, is a place where the risen Lord is present.
GAUDETE ET EXSULTATE (Rejoice and Be Glad)
Love is an action word, not a feeling. Love is taking care of someone even when they can’t or won’t give anything back.
In current times:
Love is in the little detail of wearing a mask.
Love is in the little detail of staying home when you are sick.
Love is in the little detail of making a phone call to someone who is alone.
Love is in the little detail of practising social distancing.
Love is in the detail of remembering it is not about me but working together for the common good.
Stay safe and blessings to all.
