From The Principal
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of Nativity School,
Last week our students attended the SAPSSASA Cross Country event and on Monday attended the SAPSSA Athletics Carnival. Jessica (Yr5) received a second place medal and Annabelle (Yr3) received a third place ribbon at the Cross Country. Congratulations to all students who participated in a variety of events at Athletics including discus, shotput, long jump, 200, 400 and 800metre races. Special mention to Gemma (Yr6) 1st place ribbon in both 100m & 200m, Jessica (Yr5) 2nd place ribbon in the 800m race, Millie (Yr4) 1st place ribbon in high jump and 3rd place ribbon in the 800m race. All students represented our school with pride and showed excellent sportsmanship.
Recently our year 4 students participated in the ReLAT testing. The purpose of the ReLAT test is to provide a snapshot of Year 4 students’ basic religious literacy within a broader suite of assessment approaches used in Religious Education in Catholic schools, to inform teacher professional learning, curriculum design and pedagogies. I am proud to report that our students achieved an average of 84% which is an excellent result.
Today there was great excitement as our year 3 students departed for the annual Zoo Snooze. This program engages students in activities including a live animal close-up and an exciting night walk when no one else is about. We look forward to hearing about this experience and all the learning the students will do. Thank you to Anna Charlesworth, Angela Pike and Nicholas Horton for their organisation of this event and to our parent helpers Leah Eustace and Chris Westover.
Preparations continue for Grandparents Day in week 10. This week I have had an opportunity to see some rehearsals this week and there are some very entertaining items. There will be two performances, a morning and afternoon session on Friday 24 September and unfortunately no luncheon. At this stage due to current restrictions, we will issue each family via the eldest child, with two tickets to attend a performance. This is not our preferred option, however we need to operate within our Covid Safe Plan. There will also be a recording of the entire performance that all families will have access to during term 4. Further information will follow next week via email.
Our student leaders have worked with Sally Paparella to complete the Commissioner for Children and Young People’s Student Voice Postcards initiative for 2021. The work of the Commissioner for Children and Young People is guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child; the core international treaty established in 1989 to which Australia is a signatory. This important agreement sets out the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of children around the world. By completing the postcards student views and ideas will enable the development of more effective, efficient, timely and impactful policies, systems and services in South Australia.
All Nativity families are invited to a workshop ‘Resilience the Heart of Wellbeing’ at Christ the King School on Wednesday 15th September.
This workshop will explain the neurobiological development of children aged 0 – 6 and adolescents
9 – 17. It will discuss some of the key parental and family interactions that underpin healthy neurological development, the foundations of emotional regulation, the skills for developing and maintaining peer relationship and engagement with learning. Further, it will explore how these things promote resilience and enhance the experience of wellbeing. A Flyer will be emailed to you directly with registration details.
