Dear Families
September is the month in which we focus on the work of Catholic Charities. Originally established in 1941 by Archbishop Beovich to support four orphanages, its focus has evolved with the changing social landscape. Now Catholic Charities support Hutt St Centre, SA Catholic Deaf Association, Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, Our Lady of La Vang & St Patrick’s Special Schools and Centacare Catholic Family Services.
Recently, Chloe, Sakura and Indi from Year 4 with help from our Student Leadership Team began a ‘Winter Warmers Drive’ to support Hutt Street Centre. Your donations of brand-new clothes and blankets filled a station wagon. These were kindly taken into the centre by Mark Black and he reported that the staff were thrilled with the donations. Before he had even left the car park, a blanket had been given to someone in need.
A pamphlet will be coming home today describing the agencies supported by Catholic Charities. If you can help even further, information on how to donate online is included.
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
Our School Josephite Charism
“So great is the strength that we possess in our unity.” Mary MacKillop 1874
We are very excited that we have now written our school’s charism which connects us to Mary MacKillop and the Sisters of St Joseph. This will appear on our website, in our prospectus and the staff handbook. We are planning to have honour boards in the front office foyer to acknowledge all our St Mary MacKillop Award and St Joseph Award winners since they were first established, as well as a beautiful print called ‘The Vision’. Keep a look-out as we are hoping to have them installed by the end of the year.
Blessings to you all
