Visiting “The Void” – Flinders University
The Middle School and Year 5 students continued their collaborative project with Flinders University by visiting “The Void” yesterday. “The Void” is a multipurpose screen production stage and collaboration space. Students became more familiar with the space and what is possible with the guidance of mentors Cameron Mackness and Dan Thorsland.
Below are some thoughts from some of our students.
“Visiting Flinders University and going to see Dan and Cam was a great experience. The videos that we watched were awesome and really interesting. The way they showed us the things that professionals use was so cool and I especially loved going in front of the camera and visiting other places through a screen. I had a great time and I’m super excited to start the trailer.” – Jessica
“I found this experience very exciting. We got to have a look at all the equipment that they use to create movies. They taught us about how we make movies and how it was very different to how it used to be. We had so much fun and we’re so excited to hopefully be able to have this experience again. Thank you Flinders University.” – Harper
“The Void experience with Dan And Cam was definitely something to remember. We learnt so much about how the movie world has changed over the years. To be making my very own movie would be a dream come true and with the help of Dan and Cam, I’m getting much closer. We were told about a ramp going up to the wall and how it makes it look like the floor just keeps ongoing. We saw a LED wall that would change into any landscape you wanted. I certainly feel very excited for what is to come with our movie-making experience.” – Luke
“When we went to Flinders University we first went downstairs to a room where multiple commercials have been made. In the room there was a green screen curtain and a big TV that was showing an Australian environment, we then took turn turns being filmed in the environment. Cam then showed us about “Unreal Engine” and how they make money from in-game cosmetics, worlds, and other items.” – Ryder
