From the Principal
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of Nativity School,
It is with great excitement I announce that Dirtwork Landscapes have been appointed to make our new play space come to life. Construction will commence after 27th October and should be completed by the beginning of the 2022 school year. This will of course mean some short term disruption in front of the Bartram and St Joseph’s buildings, luckily being on Campus there are many places for students to play at break times and I’m sure you will agree we have a lot to look forward to.
Last week the Year 4 and 5 students went to Woodhouse for their Camp. Thanks to Scott Baldock, Angela Pike, Julia Morrison, Deb Kelley, Bianca Cotton, Daryl Hocking and Bec Thomas for making this such an enjoyable experience for our students. I had an opportunity to visit on Wednesday night and the students were excited to talk of their experiences Billy cart riding and completing the Challenge Hill obstacle course. The students camping that night had a lovely warm fire to sit around and toast marshmallows before bed. This week the Year 6 and 7 students will be at Douglas Scrub for their Camp and luckily the weather is being kind as they will participate in an aquatics program including snorkeling and canoeing. Thanks to Andrea Broadbent, Sally Paparella, Liz Briggs, Craig Hall and Allan Smailes for supporting this camp – enjoy!
On Friday 29th October students will have the opportunity to participate in the Campus Colour Run. The Colour Run will commence under the COLA at 1:40pm on the middle oval. Reception to Year 2s will run on the inside edge and Year 3 to year 7 will run on the outer edge. Year 3 to Year 7’s will have the opportunity to have each lap recorded. This will then go into their house colour boxes to be tallied to see which House won the most laps. This is also an opportunity to raise funds for projects on Campus, so please get involved and enjoy the day. Further information will be sent from the Campus Office.
This Friday we are hosting our first information session for our Mission Australia collaboration. At this session we will be introducing Mission Australia and the services they offer, discussing services available for people with disability, understanding the NDIS and eligibility and accessing supports and services for those not eligible for the NDIS, or who do not wish to access the Scheme. Please join us in the if you can. This is a great opportunity if you are navigating the NDIS for the first time or if you would like to ensure you are getting the best possible services within your existing plan.
If you have been into the front office this week you may have noticed a change to the display. We have a print of Mary McKillop and Julian Tenison Woods called “The Vision” hanging in the centre of the pinboards. The original was painted by artist, Jan Williamson in 2016 for the 150th anniversary of the day Mary MacKillop realised her calling and her vision to educate children. Fr Julian Tenison Woods shared this vision and promised to build a school for Mary in Penola and so the Josephite Order was founded. By the end of the year, you will see hanging either side of this two honour boards which will list the recipients of the Saint Mary MacKillop Award and the St Joseph Medal each year. This display has been created to celebrate the Josephite tradition of our school.
Lastly, thank you to the parents and special visitors who attended our Grandparents and Special Friends performance at the end of last term, we hope you enjoyed the outstanding talents of our students and staff. Thank you to those who contributed to the plant stall that was held on the day, we raised a total of $237.15 for the Gardening Club. ‘NATFLIX’ is now available on the Nativity website. Please share this with Grandparents who were not able to be with us on the day.
God Bless,
Erika
