From The Principal
Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Nativity School,
Please join me in the congratulating the Nativity Sports Captains for 2022: Jessica O (Yorke) Georgia L (Murray) Lewis C (Eyre) and Finn S (Flinders) Well done to these students on preparing and delivering speeches to their teams and thankyou for your leadership this year. They will join the Captains from Thiele and Pilgrim and lead our Sports Day teams for 2022.
May 9- 13 is Catholic Education week. During Catholic Education Week 2022, we say ‘thank you’ to the dedicated, caring, hard-working staff and students who make Catholic schools in SA so special. Please leave your messages for our amazing staff on the Nativity Facebook page.
This week you have an opportunity for a Learning Conversation with your child’s teacher. Unfortunately, due to Covid they are not face to face. However, these conversations are still an important opportunity to learn more about your child’s academic, emotional and social development, to get to know your child’s teachers, to help your child’s teachers understand more about your child and to make plans with the teacher about how you can both support your child. Thank you for working in collaboration with our staff and should you have any concerns about your child’s learning please get in touch with us for a follow up conversation.
Also, this week students in year 3 and 5 are participating in the NAPLAN testing. NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents and carers to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress. At Nativity, we also use this information to inform our learning programs and to monitor student learning in our school data team. The results of these tests should be available to parents mid August to mid September.
In exciting news, this term we are working with Brown Falconer Architects to begin stage 1 B of the Master Plan. This involves planning for the refurbishment of the Bartram building. We will make the plans available to the community later this term once they have been finalised. Nativity School has been fortunate to receive a Commonwealth Grant for this project which we expect will be completed during term 1 2023.
Next week we will be holding the focus groups for the school’s Strategic Planning process, Thank you so much to our parents, student leaders and staff who have volunteered to be a part of creating the future direction of our school. This really is important work!
We are still in the season of Easter which is a time of great joy lasting for 50 days from Easter Sunday until the beginning of Pentecost. During this time the Catholic Church rejoices and celebrates the Resurrection of Christ and the promise of hope and new life around us. The paschal candle is lit every time the church gathers for mass and represents Christ, the Light of the World. It is a reminder to us of Jesus who proclaimed, “I am the light of the world” (Jn 8:12) and that we never have to walk in darkness. We can trust Jesus to lead, guide us and protect us. We can be lights to those around us! Remember to shine your light this Easter season.
God bless,
Erika
