What’s happening in Visual Arts
In Term 1, in Junior Primary, we learnt about portraits, and used different materials and techniques to create several portraits of our own. We explored the works of Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, Henri Matisse and Andy Warhol, and created work inspired by them.
In Term 1, in Years 3 and 4 we also explored portraiture, focusing on the works of Sandra Silberzweig to create our own abstract self-portraits. Throughout this unit, we explored the use of colour and line, and focused on the use of analogous colours in our artworks. We also explored painting techniques and learnt about mixing colours.
In Term 1, in Year 5 and 6 we also focused on portraiture, exploring the artwork and animations created by Tim Burton. We explored several techniques used to create of tone and value in our drawings and developed a portfolio of ideas before creating our own Tim Burton inspired self-portraits.
This term the Junior Primary years will be exploring colour, using different mediums and techniques while we do this. It will focus on choosing, mixing and creating colours to create artworks inspired by several artists. In Middle and Upper Primary, we will be focusing on Pop Art and explore the works of Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Romeo Britto to create our own artworks inspired by these artists.
