What’s been happening in Year 3/4 BP?
Health
Our Health curriculum has a strong focus on healthy habits. On Tuesdays, with Mrs Paparella we have been learning and practicing new skills to be mindful, grateful and connected learners. We are growing our attitude of gratitude by taking time to journal and activate our positive mindsets.
“Gratitude helps me to be calm, be positive and find the good things about my day” (Archie)
“An attitude of gratitude means feeling grateful for others and myself, it means feeling proud of what you have.” (Lily)
We are also focusing on our character strengths and discovering more about what makes us unique. Recognising our strengths and the strengths of others helps us to be confident learners, develops tolerance and respect, and nurtures a strong classroom community.
Science
In Science we have been exploring Earth’s changing surface. We discovered that mountain ranges are an example of how Earth’s surface changed over time. Most mountain ranges are formed when two pieces of Earth’s crust collide. To illustrate this the students had to conduct an experiment at home showing that the Earth folds and lifts to create high ridges and low valleys (pictured below). Of course this is a slow process and takes millions of years.
We also explored how weathering of the Earth’s surface can occur. We conducted an experiment on how abrasion (physical weathering) occurs.
We did this by placing some sugar cubes into a plastic container and shaking them vigorously. We then compared the sugar cubes that had been shaken to the sugar cubes that hadn’t. We noticed that the sugar cubes that had been shaken had rounded edges and corners.
GYMNASTICS
In Physical Education the students have been involved in a Gymnastics program for several weeks. This program gives students the opportunity to learn new skills and take risks in a safe environment while having fun at the same time.
“I really enjoyed the Ninja Warrior course and putting the balls through the hoops.” – Tilly
“I liked going on the balance beam, because it was challenging.” – Ethan
“I enjoyed the warm-ups, because they were all different, but I liked the parachute one the best.” – Evie
“I really liked going through the tunnel that had four entances. You had to run through and bob down.” – Ruben
Buddy Class
We were very excited to have our first buddy class session last Friday. It was a great opportunity for us to introduce ourselves to our new buddies and find out about each other. We are creating buddy profiles that will be displayed soon.
Project Compassion Carnival
Earlier this Term the Year 3-6 classes hosted our Project Compassion Carnival to raise money for Project Compassion. As a follow-up to this activity the students in our class had to create a PowerPoint to outline their involvement in the Project Compassion Carnival and what impact the money raised could have on communities that Project Compassion support. Below is some examples of the PowerPoints that were produced.
