From The Principal
Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Nativity School,
Welcome to our new Reception Students Aerin, Scarlett, Ben and Hunter. I chatted with these students about what they were enjoying about school, here are their responses:
Ben- I like to play outside and I can measure the toys.
Scarlett- I like Art and playing with my friends on the Playground.
Aerin- I like playing in the home corner and on the slide and the swings with my friends.
Hunter- I like playing with the dinosaurs and the playdough.
Welcome also to our new students in other year levels Kyra (3), Aria (3), Anthony (4) and Xavier (2) We are looking forward to getting to know you all and wish you a happy and successful time at Nativity. It is also great to have Emily Davis return to our school in Yr 3/4 and R/1K following her maternity leave.
Thank you to the students and families that attended the Parish Family Mass on the weekend thank you to our readers: Brooke (4), Elka (4), Sakura (5), Noah(3), Jonah (3), Alannah (6), Chloe (2), Lauryn (3), Kenji (2), Matilda (4) and to Maddie (6) for alter serving.
In the homily of this mass Fr Mwaura talked about the pursuit of worldly riches being vanity because at the end of our lives we have to let them all go. Mary MacKillop was a great example to us on living modestly and humbly and guides us on how we can be less vain in our lives saying “Live in perfect charity and love, aiding and mutually encouraging one another in the thorny yet strong sweet path marked out for each of us to follow” This is a great reminder to us not to have more but to be more.
Research confirms reading to children just 10 minutes each day strengthens literacy, models positive reading behaviour, and builds children’s self-esteem about reading. Each year students at Nativity are extremely well represented in the Premiere’s Reading Challenge which requires students to read 12 books between the beginning of the school year and early September, there are over 8000 books on the challenge list, so there are plenty to choose from! This year all forms are due back by the 9th September (end of week 7). Students can also leave a book review for others to read on the Premiere’s Reading Challenge Website – we would love to see some reviews from Nativity students! Here is the link: PRC Write a Review
In 2016 the Federal Government implemented the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with a Disability. This is an annual, national collection of data that anonymously counts the number of school students with a disability and the level of educational adjustments they are provided with. The Disability Discrimination Act and Disability Standards use a very broad and inclusive definition of what constitutes a disability, it does not necessarily require a medical or professional diagnosis. The decision as to whether a particular child falls within this definition for this data collection relies on the professional judgment of school staff about each child’s additional educational needs. Throughout the year, parents of students who are counted on this list, are consulted with and provided with information about the adjustments occurring for their child through the creation of a Personalised Plan for Learning. If you have any questions about this data collection, please make contact with Angela Pike or me. You can also read more in the link to the Parent information below: NCCD Parent Fact Sheet
Lastly, we look forward to seeing you at our whole school Mass for Mary MacKillop on Thursday at 9.15am and our first Assembly for the term hosted by Year5/6 on Friday morning at 9.00am.
Thank you for continuing to support our Covid safe practices during term 3!
