What’s happening in 5/6H
In year 5/6 Horton this term we have been exploring poetic techniques including imagery, simile, alliteration, power of three and repetition, and how they are used in poetry to effectively tell detailed and emotive stories.
Students had the opportunity to use these poetic techniques to write poems, describing the emotions they feel about their own passions and interests.
Below are parts taken from different poems our students have written
Mr. Horton
“Why is dance easy for some,
But hard for others?
Like tying your shoes
Or painting a canvas”
– Hailey
“The sirens sound
The long blows echo like foghorns!
The umpire slams
The ball into the ground
It flies into the sky
While the ruck men
Jump high”
-Steel
“To fall asleep, sleep, sleep
I turn to the side
And weep, weep, weep
A long blade of grass
That was like lying on a sword
Pokes me
In my shoulder”
-Jenae
