It Has Been A Busy Term In Yr 1/2W!
We have had a busy and exciting term in 1/2 H. We welcomed Ms. Laura Sprigg (Flinders University) as a preservice teacher. We have recently started to inquire into the local history of the area and the rank of preserving the past. Last week, we listened to a talk by a local historian Cyprian Maynard (many thanks to Aberfoyle Hub Library) who told us about the settlement of the area and the original township of Happy Valley. The students were interested to hear about the submerged town at the bottom of the Happy Valley Reservoir and the relocation of the people. We also visited the Adelaide Gaol and immersed ourselves in the harsh realities of being a prisoner with no heating, sanitation, or electricity! We heard about escape attempts and how contraband was thrown into the prison in tennis balls!! We turned our class into an ‘olden days classroom’ and sat in rows and discussed how students were treated in the past. We much prefer the friendlier, kinder classrooms of today!
