From the Principal – 26/10/2022
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of Nativity School,
Term 4 is off to a great start and will no doubt prove to be a very busy one for staff and families alike. This Friday 28th October is World Teachers Day. This is a chance for our community to recognise and thank the dedicated and inspiring teachers we have at Nativity. This year’s theme is Hats Off To Teachers! Hats off to our teachers who have shown amazing resilience over the last 3 years adapting to the challenges of Covid and who make a great impact daily in the lives of our students.
In exciting news, the tender for the renovation of the Bartram Building closes this week and we anticipate that work may begin in the week of November 14th. We are organising removalists to assist us in moving the classrooms and their contents on a Saturday so as not to disrupt learning for students in Reception to Year 2. I will email an update when I am able to confirm all details of the move. Meanwhile if you haven’t yet seen the plans for the Bartram building, they are available in the front office.
Thank you to Sharyn Black and Bianca Cotton for representing the school and parish at the Diocesan Assembly Friday October 21 and Saturday October 22. The purpose of the Assembly was to share examples of good practice across parish communities in these areas of Inclusion and Healing; Formation and Spiritual Development; Responding to the Cry of the Earth and the Cry of the Poor; Parish Life and Liturgy; and Outreach and Accompaniment of Children, Families and Young People.
This term the Reception to Year 2 students are working with Aboriginal Artist Lydia Carabetta in Visual Arts, a project has been made possible by a grant from Catholic Education SA. Students will each create a canvas based on a Dreaming Story using dot art and the traditional and contemporary styles of the Kulaluk elders. We look forward to sharing these pieces with you soon.
School camps have many benefits for students including the opportunity to make new friends, foster independence, build confidence and have fun! Last week the Year 3 and 4 students went to camp at Woodhouse and there were a number of students and teachers who achieved a personal best. Congratulations Harrysen for conquering the Flying Fox and Miss Harms for sleeping in a tent for the first time! This week the Year 5 and 6 students are at Douglas Scrub participating in a variety of activities including Mountain Bike riding and snorkelling. The rain this morning did not dampen spirits and we look forward to hearing about their adventures.
Many thanks to the staff and parents who made these experiences possible:
Scott Baldock, Charlotte Harms, Sally Paparella, Bianca, Cotton, Tara Macrow, Bonnie Westover and David Sheldrick.
Andrea Broadbent, Nick Horton, Nikki Hall, Alicia Symonds, Vicky Flanagan, Lee-Anne Lawry, Rebecca James and Kelly Fiebig.
After postponing Sports Day in term 1 due to Covid the time has finally arrived for our Sports Captains to lead our Teams in this much anticipated Campus event on Friday 4th November. Congratulations to our Year 6 Sports Captains for 2022:
Eyre- Lewis Collyer
Murray- Georgia Lawry
Yorke- Jessica Osborn
Flinders- Finn Sheldrick
We will begin the day with an Acknowledgement of Country and a Smoking Ceremony lead by Allen Edwards and from there students will move to their scheduled events. I look forward seeing you there.
Next week James Coussins has organised the Campus Book Fair which will open in the Library from Tuesday 1st November until Tuesday 8th November. This is a great opportunity to see the latest Children’s books and maybe even begin your Christmas shopping while supporting our Campus Schools.
Finally,
Thanks to Bonnie Westover along with other members of the Campus Events Committee for helping to organise the Campus Quiz Night 40th Anniversary celebration this Saturday 29th October and to all those who are attending on the night.
God Bless,
Erika
