Year 6 – Amazing Race
The Year 6 students recently participated in their first Amazing Race, which will become an annual activity for our Year 6 students. The Amazing Race took place in the city over a 5km course that took in many of the city’s tourist hotspots, such as Rundle Mall, The Central Markets, China Town and many of the city’s squares. If you are unfamiliar with the television series, The Amazing Race has teams competing against each other, navigating their way around based on clues that are earned by completing challenges. It was an excellent way for our Year 6 students to get to know their city better and learn a lot of interesting facts along the way while having a great time. Congratulations to the Red team (We Show Speed) for winning the first Amazing Race. Please find below a recount from one team member from each team and a video of all the fun.
In The Amazing Race you run from place to place doing challenges, all the year 6s got to try this. They split us up into 4 groups red, yellow, green and blue. The first challenge was tricky and yellow got out first, followed by green and red then blue. Next, we had to locate the big Cathedral and take a picture of it. Yellow, green and red got there first and took the picture at the same time shortly after blue got there. Fast forward to the end and red had a big gap between them and green. Yellow was catching up. Red got to the finish line first, then yellow, then green, and finally blue. The staff checked our answers and told us to nominate 1 person each. We nominated Brayden and he had to eat a cupcake as fast as he could, and he won. That gave red 10 minutes off their time and that let us win!!!!!

In team 2 fast 2 furious, we were green, and we finished 2nd. In our team was Ciara as the team captain, Cecilia, Harper, Georgia, Jess, Mason, and Miss Symonds as our team supervisor. We all had so much fun, and our favourite challenges were going through the Central Markets looking for stalls to answer questions, taking a bit too many photos and successfully getting a cupcake from BTS cupcakes and not being tempted to eat it until the finish line, where we nominated a person from each team to see who could eat it the fastest.

We did the Amazing Race and I was in Mr Baldock’s team. We were called the Thrill Seekers. It was a really fun day, and we all enjoyed it. We did a lot of walking, photo-taking, laughing, and having fun! Our favourite part was when we had to try the hot sausage in the Central Markets. Personally, I didn’t think it was too bad. Our team finished 2nd but overall, we came 3rd and we had a great time. In our group we had Abi, Cacey, Tully, Cooper and me. We all got a chocolate at the end for doing so well. We had lots of fun and enjoyed all the challenges.

All Year 6’s participated in The Amazing Race. The day was split into stages and challenges. There were four different stages, and in each three challenges. Each challenge was in a different location. In each challenge, there was a different objective some examples are photos, sketches, and questions. I was the team captain for the blue team, and our team’s name was Shooting Stars. Even though we came last, we all had a great time, and a lot of people (not just from our team) would have repeated the day again.
