Dear Nativity Community
Children’s Book Week
Last week, you could have been mistaken that our school had many characters from books visit us. When we looked closely, we could see that our students and staff had gone to a lot of trouble to become book characters. The list of characters was endless: Cat in the Hat, sport players, princesses, dinosaurs, explorers, caterpillars, butterflies and even Where’s Wally just to name a few. Our book week parade was the culmination of the activities for 2023 Book Week, where our students heard about the short-listed books and carried out various Book week activities. We hope that from all the activities carried out that we have helped to continue the joy of reading and see it is a lifelong activity.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Oliver D (3/4HD), for receiving a recognition award from Literacy Pro for his achievements in reading. Oliver will receive a $20 book club voucher.
Pupil Free Day
A reminder that on Monday 4th September we have a Pupil Free day. During the day staff will be taking part in professional development in Mathematics.
Premiers Reading Challenge – FINAL CALL
We have less than a week remaining of the Premiers reading Challenge, I encourage all year 3-6 students to complete the reading challenge. Once completed students can return their sheets to their class teacher. All forms need to be returned no later than Friday 8th September.
Fathers Day
Fathers’ Day as we know it, started in 1910 as a result of the efforts of a young American girl who wanted to recognise fathers, inspired by her own father who was a single Dad with six children. Since then Fathers’ Day is celebrated in many countries but not all on the first Sunday in September as it is here in Australia. While Fathers’ Day is a celebration of fatherhood, it’s a time for us to honour, celebrate and to be thankful for all of the men, father figures and male role models in our lives… including our uncles, grandfathers, Godfathers, and even our male teachers. We recognise the very important role you have in the lives of children.
We also remember loved ones who are no longer able to celebrate Father’s Day with us. We are mindful towards those experiencing sadness, grief and other emotions that this day can bring as loved ones are remembered in our hearts.
We wish all Dads, Grandads, Uncles and father-figures a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday. May your day be filled with laughter coupled with the smiles and love of those closest to you.
Nativity Stars
On Friday the 8th September, we will be welcoming our newest ‘Nativity Stars’ and their families as they begin their transition to school. This year we have renamed our school transition program to NATIVITY STARS (formerly Little Stars).
Our program will operate on a Friday from 8:45 – 12:00pm, during Term 3 I will be running the program, whilst Lucinda King takes long service leave. Lucinda will run the program in Term 4.
We are looking forward to our newest students learning about Nativity.
