Kitchen Garden
What’s Happening in Kitchen Garden ………………
Our brand-new Kitchen Garden is really starting to take shape, with some of our first harvest already being used to prepare meals with our Year 5/6’s! We’ve particularly seen success with our zucchini’s and even tried cooking some stuffed zucchini flowers.
In the garden, the students have enjoyed checking for pests and weeds, and keeping our beds well-watered, especially in the heat. It’s always exciting to see a new vegetable start from a flower and slowly grow into the ones we know and eat.
In the kitchen, students have been getting used to the routine of keeping everything clean and safe. We have looked at different tools in the kitchen and how they are used and also the ‘chemistry’ of cooking using our 5 senses: how different foods mix and how they change when we touch them, cut them or cook them. I’m sure will be excited to share some of their new skills with you at home!
In the classroom, we have been talking about materials; how we use many different materials to make things and why different materials are good for different purposes. I’m sure this knowledge will come in handy as we look to find new solutions to help our garden thrive.
