From The Principal
Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Nativity School,
Welcome to another term of engaging learning.
We look forward to meeting with you in Learning Conversations next week. At Nativity, students in R-2 have a parent /teacher conversation with the focus of the conversation being on the responses made by students in the Learning Conversation booklet. Students in 3-6 have student-led conversations. During this time students are expected to attend and lead the discussion about their work, using the Learning Conversation booklet. If you haven’t had a chance to book yet, you can still do so until Friday. As you know formal Learning Conversations are only one form of communication between you and your child’s teacher. Keep connected with us using mutually agreed forms of school/home communication such as Seesaw, email, or phone.
Catholic Education Week is an annual opportunity to celebrate the excellent teaching and learning that happens in Catholic schools every day and reflect on what makes our school so special. At Nativity we will be having an Open Day to showcase the fantastic learning that happens in our classrooms on Wednesday 15th May. Parents and Friends of our school are welcome to book in for a tour at 9am or 2.30pm on this day. Please call Cate or Lisa in the office to register your interest.
Next week our Year 6 students will be participating in a Leadership retreat with the theme “Changing hearts to care for our world.” The activities for the day will focus on spirituality, relationship and commitment to taking care of our world. Thanks to Rachel Baulderstone and the Year 6 teachers for leading this day at the Aberfoyle Park Community Centre.
The Year 5 and 6 students will also be working with Nikki Carabetta, Indigenous artist on Mondays in term 2 to create a totem welcome pole for our entrance near the carpark and a welcome art piece for the MacKillop building. We look forward to sharing the finished products with you at the end of the term and look forward to learning more about Indigenous artworks with Nikki’s expertise.
At Nativity along with our vast play spaces we also offer lunchtime clubs for our students. There is always plenty to do during break times.
This term students have the following options:
Tuesday – Story Writing with Mrs Jones
Wednesday – Wellbeing and Mindfulness with Mrs Wadley
Thursday – Games Club with Miss Randall
Friday – Gardening Club with Mrs Baulderstone and Ms Wynes
Thanks to our dedicated staff who volunteer their time for these activities. Students can also count these clubs in their hours for the Children’s University Program.
During the term break we were advised that we have won a PIE (Parents in Education) grant for our Cybersafe Together initiative. The PIE grant program is supported by the Office of the Minister for Education, Training, and Skills, Government of South Australia. Catholic School Parents South Australia is responsible for administering the grants for Catholic Schools in South Australia. The grant will enable us to provide a Cybersafe session for students together with their parents ( Year 3-6 ) to learn about and open up important conversations about cyber safety. These sessions will run during June and more information will be sent home soon.
This weekend Rachel and I will be a part of the Parish representatives for the Regional Assembly. The Assembly is an opportunity to gather with surrounding parishes to listen, learn and collaborate on how we can continue building truly missionary Catholic communities. I’m sure Rachel will inform you of the outcomes in her website piece next week.
God Bless,
Erika
