From The Principal
Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Nativity School,
Last week we had some students attend the SAPSASA Cross Country event, Congratulations to Anabelle O who came 1st in the 2012 girls race and Jack T who placed 7th in the 2014 age group boy’s race. Our 5/6 girls Knock out Netball team have also made into the second round which will be early in term 3. Well done to all these students and thank you for representing our school so well.
This week students have been cooking spring onion pancakes, with spring onions from our Kitchen Garden. Thanks to Mrs Ruddock, Mrs Sporowicz and Mr Rismondo for helping our students cook up a storm.
Thanks 1 / 2 W for letting me try your pancakes! These pancakes were certainly tasty. The students agree:
Thomas – tastes like Indian bread
Sebastian- Delicious!
Samay – I love it!
Esme- Yum!
Maisie- It’s the best thing in the whole world!
Aidan – It’s goooood!
Our Kitchen Garden is also a great way for our students to connect with God’s creation and learn about sustainability and caring for the environment. May 19- 27 is Laudato si week. During this week particularly we are called to consider how we can plant and nurture seeds to be the hope that the world needs during this time of suffering for our planet (Laudate Deum, 2). Our students have been planting and taking care of our winter garden crops; garlic, sweet potatoes, spinach, leeks, carrots, Asian greens, beans, parsley and many more herbs and vegetables in preparation for making soup for the Moore Street Soup Kitchen. The Moore Street Soup Kitchen provide food and support to those struggling with homelessness in the Adelaide CBD.
Next week is Reconciliation Week, 27 May – 3 June is a time for all Australians to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander shared histories, cultures, and achievements. This year’s theme is “Now More Than Ever”. Students at Nativity will be joining with our friends at the Campus Kindergarten to watch a dance performance by David Booth on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm to celebrate National Reconciliation week and to learn more about indigenous culture.
Next Wednesday is Instrumental Night. Thanks to Ally Cunningham and our fabulous Campus instrumental tutors for putting together this celebration of our students’ musical achievements. Students should arrive at 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start. We look forward to seeing you there.
As you know, school attendance is critically important. There is a direct link between attendance and achievement in learning – all school days matter!
“Every day counts and there is no ‘safe’ threshold for absences” – Hancock et al., 2013
Regular attendance allows students to fully engage in classroom activities, discussions, and hands-on learning experiences. It provides them with the opportunity to grasp new concepts, ask questions, and collaborate with their peers. Consistent attendance also helps foster a sense of belonging and connection within the school community. Thank you for working in partnership with us to ensure the best possible learning experiences for your child/ren and ensuring that their attendance rate is high.
God Bless,
Erika
