The School of the Nativity Learning Statement
Nurturing and Empowering Learners to Thrive
School of the Nativity was formed in 1982 as part of a joint initiative between the Catholic community, the Department of Education, and an independent school. The School of the Nativity is a reception to year 6 co-ed primary school within Aberfoyle Park Primary School Campus.
Our School community is both nurturing and empowering. Our goal is to ensure that students, staff and families thrive and develop the social and emotional capabilities for lifelong learning. We encourage our students to have confidence and resilience. The Nativity learning community has a global view and is focused on making the world a better place for everyone.
Nurturing
Mary McKillop paved the way for the education of all children. Her commitment to student inclusion, engagement and achievement remains at the centre of our school. She looked beyond the curriculum and aspired to see the whole person. Just as our church has been described as a lantern in the valley, we are a light for Mary’s legacy, modelling the values of belonging, justice, compassion, gratitude, forgiveness, and courage, inspiring a hope-filled community.
Empowering
Empowered learners express their feelings constructively, establish boundaries and build a culture that values and encourages student voice and agency. We believe learners need opportunities to work towards the growth of themselves and the community.
Learners
Education is a social endeavour, and we encourage collaboration. As learners on a quest for knowledge, we offer daily experiences to spark curiosity, enhance knowledge and develop skills based on prior learning. The learning experience at Nativity is focused on the development of all learners.
Thrive
At Nativity, our learning community flourishes and thrives through our sense of belonging. Success in learning includes being connected, happy and healthy people who are positive about the future and open to new challenges. Like the peaceful trees which surround our school, with their deep root system providing sustenance for their canopies to stretch and grow, we are empowering our learners to thrive.
