From The Principal
Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Nativity School,
Thank you for attending our annual Campus Sports Day last Friday and cheering the students on. Congratulations to Murray (Blue) for winning the Championship Shield and Flinders (Red) for winning the spirit shield. Nativity had two Champion Athletes with both Marley and Baron receiving awards. Anabelle also deserves congratulations narrowly coming runner up in the girl’s category. Well done! – we are proud of your efforts and the way you represented our school.
On Tuesday night I was invited to the opening of the St Joseph Centre at Sacred Heart College Middle School. You can see some of the photos of this amazing learning space on our Facebook page. I encourage you to take a tour of Sacred Heart Middle School, the next tour is Tuesday 9th April. You can see all upcoming tour details on the Sacred Heart College website. Year 3 and 4 families be mindful that your enrolment forms are required 18 months prior to beginning in year 7. Cate and Lisa have prospectus/enrolment forms available in the front office if you need them.
This week students in year 3 and 5 have been completing the 2024 NAPLAN tests. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress. At Nativity, we also use this information to inform our learning programs and to monitor student learning in our school data team that reviews the literacy and numeracy progression and wellbeing of each student in our school. According to ACARA’s (Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority) recent media release preliminary school and student results from the assessments will be available early in Term 2, around 4 weeks after the test period ends. Just a reminder that last year there was a change to the way in which NAPLAN results are reported to parents with the introduction of proficiency standards – exceeding; strong; developing; and needs additional support. The Proficiency strands set a higher level of achievement than the previous National Minimum Standard. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Next Tuesday 19th March we will celebrate St Joseph’s Day. This is an important day for us as a Josephite School. St Joseph is Patron Saint of all Josephite schools and is the model of servant leadership for students and staff. We will begin our day with Community Prayer to Celebrate St. Joseph by asking for his care and protection of your family this day and always. Please join us in the shelter area at 8.45am. The Student Leadership Team have organised our Project Compassion Carnival this year with a focus on the Catholic social teaching of preferential option for the poor. Thank you in advance for your gold coin donations that will benefit the work of Caritas Australia.
Thankfully our Kitchen Garden has survived the heat over the past week! Thanks to Archie for creating the following poster to show you what we are growing.
God Bless,
Erika
