Year 3/4 SA ART GALLERY & MUSEUM EXCURSION
Last Friday, the Year 3/4 classes went on an Excursion to the South Australian Art Gallery and Museum.
At the Museum students had fun exploring every area of the Museum as they worked through an activity book where they had the task of doing research or finding answers to questions.
Here are some highlights of the Museum from some of our students…
“I loved seeing how big the T-Rex head skeleton was.” – Thomas
“I thought it was cool seeing the beehive and the bees coming and going.” – Amity
“In the museum, I saw a big squid, and I could stand on it from above.” – Amelia
“I found it interesting that mummies get wrapped up.”- Jensen
“The fossils at the museum were really interesting because you saw the different body types of different animals.” – Zora
“I put my fingers in the ice at the Antarctica exhibition, and it was really cold.” – Griffin
At the Art Gallery, we had an art lesson in the Art Galleries Studio. We learnt about Biomorphism and participated in making abstract shapes. These abstract shapes were placed on a luminous table where photos of our arrangements were taken and used to animate our shapes on a screen.
After our Studio session, we then went on an Art Gallery tour where we got to have a deep dive into particular artworks throughout the gallery, finding out more about the artwork, the artists and their motivations for creating such unique pieces.
Here are some highlights of the Art Gallery from some of our students….
“Absence of Body and Mind was an amazing piece of artwork that was inspired by the artist’s experience with cancer.” – Alia
“The flower screen showed all the months, and it was a 60-minute time-lapse that showed all the seasons.”- Hudson
“Something I liked at the Art Gallery was the studio room where we got to make animations.” – Tanya
A big thank you to our parent helpers Nathan Watson-Haigh, Elizabeth Mulconray, Leanne Hiley, Pam Jeranyama, Wah Wah Naw, Haylee Findlay and David Moore. We greatly appreciated your assistance with our excursion.
