On Tuesday, the Young Environmental Leaders Program (YELP) crew, who is made up from our Sustainability and Yard Crew Leaders, visited Woodend Primary School for an exciting day of learning and exploration. We were fortunate to have Bonnie Westover join us to help make the day a success.
At Woodend Primary School, we had the chance to see their wonderful gardening program in action. The students there are doing an amazing job growing different plants and learning about how to care for their environment. We also took some time to observe birds in their natural habitat and discussed how the condition of the soil affects what we can grow. This experience was very meaningful, especially as we approach the Season of Creation.
The Season of Creation is a special time in the Church’s calendar that invites us to reflect on our environment and the wonder and awe within our world. During these months, we focus on Pope Francis’ message from Laudato Si’, which calls us to care for our common home and be mindful of the impact we have on the Earth.
As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we are excited to announce that we are introducing Bokashi Bins into our school. Our YELP leaders are working closely with Mrs. Ruddock to implement this new composting system. Bokashi composting is a unique process that turns kitchen scraps into valuable soil amendments, enriching the food we grow and reducing waste. This practice is not just an efficient way to compost but also a respectful approach to nature’s cycle, showing us how we can live in harmony with our environment even in urban settings.
Finally, a reminder that the Sacramental Mass will be held on Sunday, 15th September, at the Nativity Church at 11:00 am. Please keep the children currently undertaking the Sacramental Program—Zimuzo, Jack, Millie, Levi, and Quinn—in your prayers as they prepare for this special day.
Thank you for your support and commitment to our community and our planet!
Grace and peace
