From The Principal
Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Nativity School,
We welcome our Nativity Stars students and their families this Friday. We are looking forward to getting to know you all and being a part of your learning journey. Nativity Stars supports students to develop a sense of belonging to our community. A sense of belonging can assist many aspects of children’s learning and development, including their emerging sense of identity, wellbeing and engagement with learning. Thanks to Mrs King for working with our newest students and Mrs James for teaching Reception on Friday mornings.
Our Choir students Jack, Kyra, Matilda, Tilly, Sophie, Saelah, Charlotte, Casey, Grace, Poppy, Eire, Brooke, Sadie and Anabelle are preparing for the Catholic Schools Music Festival on Tuesday 24th September. This year marks the 36th annual festival, highlighting the enduring legacy and vibrant future of music education within Catholic schools across South Australia. For over three decades, the Catholic Schools Music Festival has been a beacon of musical excellence, bringing together young talents from various schools to showcase their skills and passion with this year being no exception. Many thanks to Ally Cunningham our choir trainer, who has been instrumental in creating such a memorable event for our students. I will be proudly cheering for you all from the audience.
Grandparents Day is just around the corner (27th September) and there is great excitement as students practice their performances for Nativity Count Down. Some students have shared with me what they are most excited about:
Lily B– I’m excited that all the grandparents will be watching us dance
Alia- I’m excited to be doing a solo performance
Emmerson M- I’m excited to dress up in the costume
Orlando – I’m excited to be performing on the stage
The Season of Creation began on September 1, with the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends on October 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology. It is a time for us to envision a world where the beauty of Creation is preserved for generations to come. A simple way you could acknowledge this season with your family is to:
Recall: bring to mind a place in nature that is meaningful to you. It can be a place from childhood, a place visited during a special trip, or maybe somewhere you’ve never been, but has significance to you.
Imagine: the place as vividly as possible, as if you are there right now. Describe the colours…the textures…the different shapes…the sounds…the smells.
Give thanks: When you are ready, close by offering a prayer of thanks to God for the gift of creation and this special place
This week we have had a visit from the Australian Dental Foundation. Dr Lina and Dental Assistant Sasha provided our students with dental examinations and oral health education. They reminded us that drinks with sugar can contribute to tooth decay and the importance of choosing to drink water and brushing teeth regularly. I have included the Dental Foundation poster below about how much sugar is in commonly consumed drinks.
I look forward to seeing you at the Year 3/ 4 R assembly this Friday.
God Bless,
Erika
