What’s happening in 5/6M
As we rapidly approach the mid-point of term 4 in 5/6 Matushik/Gillespie, let’s take a moment to reflect on all the incredible activities and learning experiences we’ve had!
Vocation in Religion
This term, we delved into the concept of vocation in religion, exploring how faith can help us to find our calling and purpose. Students engaged in thoughtful discussions and reflections, gaining insights into how these beliefs shape lives and communities.
Creative Magazine Project
In English, we embarked on a creative journey by designing our own magazines. This project allowed us to express our ideas and interests through writing, art, and layout design. It is a fantastic way to enhance our literacy skills while having fun!
The Beep Test Challenge
One of the highlights of our physical education this term was competing in the Beep Test. This fitness test measures our aerobic capacity and endurance. Students ran back and forth between two markers, with the pace increasing at each level. We recorded our results and evaluated our performance using various graphs in maths, helping us understand our progress and set fitness goals.
Exploring Banksy in Art
In art class, we explored the thought-provoking works of Banksy, the renowned street artist. Students analyzed his unique style and the messages behind his art, inspiring them to create their own pieces that reflect social issues important to them.
Mindfulness and Memory Techniques
We also learned about the loci memory technique in our mindfulness sessions. This technique helps improve memory by associating information with specific locations, making it easier to recall later. It’s a valuable skill that can aid in our studies!
Camp and Assembly Success
Our camp was a fantastic adventure filled with teamwork and fun activities. Additionally, our “I’m a Celebrity” themed assembly was a hit, showcasing the talents and creativity of our classmates. Both events fostered a strong sense of community and school spirit.
PE and Cricket
In physical education, we enjoyed playing cricket, learning the rules and techniques of this classic sport. It was a great way to develop our teamwork and coordination skills while having a blast outdoors!
Music and Soundscapes
In music class, we got creative by using voice recordings. This project allowed us to explore sound and motivational speaking, enhancing our understanding of music composition and sound design.
Japanese Language Learning
Finally, in Japanese, we focused on learning weather vocabulary. This not only expanded our language skills but also helped us connect with the world around us.
Looking ahead
As we approach the end of the term, there are several exciting events on the horizon for our Year 5 and 6 students! We’re looking forward to the Transition Afternoon on December 10th, where the year 5 students will meet their new teachers and classmates for Year 6. Additionally, all Year 5 and 6 students will participate in Footsteps Dance Lessons leading up to the Graduation celebration, showcasing their skills at the dinner on December 5th. The Thanksgiving and Graduation Mass will also be a special occasion, where Year 6 students will receive their Graduation Certificates and blessings. Finally, we can’t wait for the Final Assembly on December 9th, where students will reflect on their time at Nativity before heading off to a fun day of activities. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate their achievements and bid farewell to their primary school journey!
