From the Principal

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of Nativity School,

This week we were prepared for our visitors from the Westpac Rescue helicopter to land Monday morning, unfortunately they had to postpone until this Friday morning instead. What a great ending to our week! The Westpac helicopter provides essential patrol and rescue services to the beach users of South Australia. Our thanks to Chris, Trevor and Michael for taking the time to visit our school to talk to students about how to avoid getting into danger in the water, staying safe in an emergency and giving them the chance to see the helicopter up close.

On Tuesday some of our Year 3-6 students attended the SACPSSA Swimming Carnival at the SA Aquatics Centre. Special Congratulations to Sophia for coming second in the 25m backstroke, Jonah for coming second in the 25m freestyle and Danny for coming second in the 50m backstroke. Thanks to Nicola Randall for supporting the students on the day. Next week 17 of our students will attend the SAPSASA Athletics Carnival. Good luck everyone!

Holy Week, is the final week of Lent for Catholics, and commemorates the Passion of Jesus Christ, from his entry into Jerusalem to his crucifixion, culminating in Easter Sunday’s celebration of his resurrection. As Easter does not fall in the school term this year the students Holy Week Reflections will be in week 11 on Tuesday 8th April at 9am and Wednesday 9th April at 2.20pm. Please join us if you are able to.
Many thanks to all those families who have generously donated to our Lenten fundraising for Caritas through participation in St Joseph’s Day stalls and returning Project Compassion boxes. So far, we have raised $758! This money goes toward alleviating poverty, promoting justice and upholding dignity in the most vulnerable and marginalised communities in the world. This is certainly reflective of our theme this year – Leading with a Josephite Heart. As Mary MacKillop reminds us – it’s important to “Be a gift of Love and Compassion for another”

School of the Nativity is guided by The Catholic Archdiocese of Adelaide’s Safeguarding Children and Young People’s Policy in maintaining a child safe environment for our students. All staff and volunteers have up to date Working with Children Clearances and training. Each year staff also teach the Keeping Safe Child Protection Curriculum which has two main themes: We all have the right to be safe and we can help ourselves to be safe by talking to people we trust. If you have any questions about this curriculum, please talk with your child’s teacher.
