Term 2 News From 5/6HB

We are off to a fantastic Term 2 in 5/6 Harrison Baulderstone. On the first day back, our year 6’s engaged in a leadership excursion to AFL Max. Students engaged in 4 quarters of activities and fun that built teamwork and communication skills.

We really enjoyed catching up with families during Learning Conversations!

In English, this term we have started our unit on persuasive texts. Each student was given a random item and had to persuade the class to purchase it. Students added enthusiasm and high modality words. In mathematics, we have been exploring fractions and comparing these to a half. Students have made their own fraction walls and identified equivalent fractions. In HASS, we have started learning about democracy, Australian values and why citizens vote. In week 4, we are off to see Parliament House to build a deeper understanding of our learning this term. We are excited to be led on a tour by Erin Thompson MP.

In art, we have started our Media Arts unit. Students learnt about various elements of digital design including salience, colour and gaze. We have been designing our own movie posters on Canva and paper.

In Religious Education we are looking at Mary, Jesus’ Mother and her courage. We are showing this through her stories and students are displaying their favourite story through art. We will then go onto look at songs and prayers like the Hail Mary and The Angelus. In Week 5 our class will be hosting a Whole School Mass for on the Thursday at 9.15am. All welcome.

With Statewide Netball and Soccer also happening this term – it will be another busy one!
