From The Principal

Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Nativity School,
The term seems to be flying by!

Congratulations to our Cross Country Runners in particular the Yr 5 Girls: Matilda, Chloe, Amaya, Quinn & Mila for winning the pennant for their division with a special mention of the superb effort by Matilda coming in 3rd place and Amaya in 4th place. Congratulation also to Kenji who qualified for the SAPSASA Southern District Soccer Team.

We also congratulate the students who represented our school in the Hiragana competition Poppy, Thomas, Callum, Zora and Kyra.

On Monday the Student Leaders made another batch of soup for the Moore St Centre. Thank you once again for the generous donations of soup making ingredients. We have 2 more scheduled soup drop offs this term on Monday 1st and 15th of September and you are still welcome to donate vegetables and stock.

This Friday we have a whole school mass for the Feast of the Assumption. The Feast of the Assumption, celebrated on August 15th acknowledges the Catholic teaching that Mary, born free of original sin, was assumed, body and soul to be with her Son and God in Heaven.
Please join us for mass if you are able at 12.00pm.

Our new Reception class is settling in well to school life. This week I chatted to some of them about what they were enjoying about being at school:

Aurora- I like baking in the kitchen and being the line leader
Eliza – I enjoy being a helper and doing the classroom jobs
Eliana – I like playing on the swings in the playground

Our Catholic Schools Music Festival Choir are getting ready for their Adelaide Convention Centre performance on Wednesday 24th September. This group have been working under the direction of our Festival Choir director, Ally Cunningham and Choir Director Denise Rothall to rehearse the actions and songs which they will perform along with 400 other Catholic school students.

Preparations continue for our Grandparents Day celebrations – School of Rock. Thanks to Marissa Ritorto from Flava Dance Studios who is supporting our junior primary students with their dance moves. Make sure to keep Friday 26th September free for the performances. More information in regard to tickets and show times will be sent home soon.

Next week I will be attending the National Catholic Education Conference. The theme ‘hope, anchored in faith’, will focus on the strategic vision and mission of Catholic education across three key areas – Faith, Excellence and Access. There will be a broad range of speakers, presentations and workshops focused on Catholic identity, mission and formation; learning and teaching; leadership and governance; parent engagement; parish and community engagement; resourcing and infrastructure; advocacy and marketing. In addition, it will be an opportunity to meet with my colleagues from around the nation. I look forward to sharing some insights with you.

Lastly, we celebrate Children’s Book Week with a Campus dress up parade on Friday 22nd August. Please join us in the Gym at 9.00am – R-2 parade and 9.30am 3-6 parade.

God Bless,
Erika
