From The Principal | Week 2, Term 1
Dear Parents, Students, Staff, and Friends of Nativity School,
Last week, we welcomed 29 Reception students, who have already adapted confidently to their classes and school routines. Additionally, we extend a warm welcome to Maya and Thomas in Year 1, Grace, Aubree, Aidan, and Chayce in Year 3, along with their families, as they join our school community. We look forward to a year filled with engaging learning experiences with you all!
The Reception students have shared some of their favourite activities from their first week at school with me:
Fraser – I like playing with the dolls house
Lucas – I liked making a dragon by sticking paper together
Elsie – I like playing with my friends on the playground
Matilda – I like playing with the toy kitchen
This week the Nativity Nest Playgroup begins again on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 .00 am- 10.15 am in the Bartram Building. We warmly invite all community members with children from 0-5 yrs members to come along. Whether you’re a regular or new to the group, we’d love to see you there!
The theme chosen by our Year 6 students for 2026 “Understanding is the key to Justice” resonates profoundly with the life and legacy of Mary MacKillop and being a part of a Josephite school. Mary’s legacy teaches us that justice is about recognising the humanity in each person and striving to support them with kindness, dignity, and understanding. I look forward to our Year 6 students leading us to connect with this important theme throughout the year. It seems more important than ever with all that we see in the news each night.
On Tuesday, 10th February, we are looking forward to hosting a Welcome BBQ, Annual General Meeting (AGM), and Student-led Assembly for all families. Further details regarding this event have been communicated separately to each family.
We are inviting nominations for an additional community member to join the Nativity School Board at this year’s AGM. Up to six community members may be elected, with parents, legal guardians, and broader school community members eligible. Thanks to our continuing board members: Gemma, Chris, Jess, Paul, and Alistair. The board also includes the Principal, Assistant Principal (Learning and Teaching), Parish Priest, and a Parish nominee. To express interest or seek more information, please email me by Monday, 9th February, ahead of the AGM on Tuesday.
Next week we will be welcoming Sia, a Korean exchange student, to year 5/6. Sia will be at Nativity for three weeks as part of an exchange program. This will be a great learning opportunity for our students to learn about Korea and for Sia to learn about school life in Australia.
As the school year begins, a reminder of the importance of regular school attendance is essential for your child’s learning and overall development. Every day spent at school helps your child build knowledge, develop social skills, and establish positive habits that will benefit them throughout life. Consistent attendance and punctuality support your child’s academic progress and help them feel part of our school community.
God Bless,
Erika
