What’s happening in 5/6HB

The 2026 school year has begun with a real buzz of excitement in 5/6Harrison/Broad! Students have been busy getting to know one another while establishing new routines and shared expectations for the year ahead. We have revisited our RISE to Thrive behaviour framework and explored what it looks like in action within our classroom and wider school community. Students have also begun their learning in the Zones of Regulation curriculum, where they were introduced to the important concept of self-regulation. These lessons will provide a common language to discuss emotions and will teach regulation strategies.

In English, we have loved diving into reading and sparking creativity by generating exciting story ideas. In Mathematics, our focus has been on number, with students revising and strengthening their understanding of place value. In Religious Education, we explored what the Holy Spirit is and where we notice God at work in the world around us. Students provided insightful examples of love, justice, and peace in action. Students have begun working on their first Visual Arts project which will see them take agency over their own work by creating a unique art box that expresses themselves. We will be building on these over the coming weeks and can’t wait to see what they create.

Meanwhile, our Year 6 students have been enthusiastically working on their leadership and Sports Day applications. We are very much looking forward to seeing strong leadership emerge across roles such as Kitchen Garden, Technology, Performing Arts, lunch clubs, Sustainability, and the Student Leadership Team. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic year ahead for 5/6HB and we look forward to sharing more with you.

Thank you,
Emma Harrison and Rebecca Broad
