A Joyful Start to the Year in 1/2W
The year has begun with excitement and fresh energy in 1/2W, as we warmly welcomed some wonderful new faces into our classroom community. From the very first days, it has been a time of connection, belonging, and joyful learning as students settled into new routines and friendships.
We officially opened our year with a Welcome Mass. This special celebration reminded us of the importance of community, faith, and gratitude as we begin our learning journey together. It was a meaningful way to come together as a class and as part of our wider school family. we were fortunate to be joined by Father Mwaura and Deacon Tee-Ping in the classroom after Mass for a Q & A.
In literacy, students have launched into learning with enthusiasm through information texts. We have been revisiting the elements of a strong sentence and exploring how writers keep readers interested and informed. Students are beginning to unpack the key features of information texts, learning how facts are organised, ideas are clearly communicated, and information is shared in engaging ways.
Our science learning has been hands-on and highly engaging as we explore the seasons. Students have been observing changes in weather and nature and linking this learning with technologies by designing and creating windmills. Through investigation and testing, they explored whether long or short sails made a difference, developing curiosity, problem-solving skills, and an understanding of how design choices affect outcomes.
In HASS and Religion, our learning has focused on community and belonging. Students are enquiring into the importance of our local, state, and global communities, and how we can live as Jesus showed us—through kindness, inclusion, service, and care for others. These discussions have encouraged students to reflect on their own role within different communities and how their actions can make a positive difference.
Class sharing has brought these ideas together, with students diving into discussions about their favourite seasons and explaining why. They have enjoyed listening to different perspectives, practising respectful communication, and building confidence in sharing their thinking.
It has been a vibrant and meaningful start to the year in 1/2W, and we look forward to continuing our journey of learning, faith, and discovery together.
