Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Nativity School
It’s hard to believe we are already over halfway through Term 1. As I walk around the school and chat with students and teachers, I am continually impressed by the genuine enthusiasm for learning and the high levels of engagement in our classrooms.
On Monday, I met with Brown Falconer Architects to begin the planning process for the new amenities on the St Joseph’s building, as well as the refurbishment of the existing amenities in the Bartram Building. While there are still a number of steps to work through before construction can begin, I’ll make sure to keep you updated on our progress along the way.
On Tuesday, the School Board convened to confirm the roles of its members for 2026, and engaged in discussions regarding the uniform and canteen procurement processes. The meeting also included presentations of both the school and parish reports, as well as updates on the 2026 building project. Thanks to Gemma, Jess, Pat, Alistair, Chris and Paul for their commitment to the School Board this year.
This week, we are preparing to celebrate St Joseph’s Day. St Joseph, the husband of Mary and the earthly father of Jesus, is honoured in the earliest Christian traditions as a carpenter and a man of great faith. He is also the patron of the Josephite sisters, symbolising their mission to serve those in need with humility, trust in God, and gentle, protective care. These values are reflected in our own school community, as we strive to support and look after each other every day.
The anticipation for the St Joseph’s Day Project Compassion Fair amongst students is palpable, with this year’s stalls promising to be better than ever! We warmly invite you to join us for our whole school mass on Thursday at 9.15 am. It’s always a special occasion when our community gathers together in celebration and prayer.
On Friday, please remember that we have a Pupil Free Day. Our staff will be engaging in professional development focused on Positive Behaviour Support, which involves proactive strategies, skill development, and adapting the learning environment to best support all students. We will also be continuing our work with Teach Well—a research-informed approach that ensures consistent, high-quality teaching and learning across all classrooms. This initiative helps students to understand what they are learning, why it matters, and how they can grow and improve. Teach Well aims to ensure that strong, effective teaching is present in every classroom, every day, benefiting each and every student.
