From the Principal
Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Nativity School
Term 3 is off to a flying start! Our students have settled back into classes quickly and are showing wonderful enthusiasm for their learning. There’s so much to look forward to, with Term 2 beginning next week and a range of exciting events, including the Year 6 Retreat, the Statewide Netball Carnival, the Year 3–6 Goo Roo Incursion on animation, Learning Conversations, and our much-loved annual Mother’s Day stall.
Next week, we’re especially looking forward to our Learning Conversations. These conversations are a valuable opportunity for you to meet and get to know your child’s teacher and continue building a strong partnership between home and school. They allow for sharing insights about your child’s progress, interests, and needs, as well as helping teachers understand your child even better. By asking questions and engaging in these discussions, you’re able to play an active role in your child’s learning journey and provide support where it’s most needed, working in partnership with your child’s teacher.
At Nativity, students in R–2 have parent/teacher conversations, with a focus on student responses in the Learning Conversation booklet. Meanwhile, students in Years 3–6 participate in student-led conversations, where they are encouraged to attend and lead the discussion about their work using the booklet as a guide. This empowers students to take ownership of their learning and reflect on their achievements and goals.
Remember, formal Learning Conversations are just one way to stay connected with your child’s teacher. We encourage ongoing communication through mutually agreed channels such as Seesaw, email, or phone, to ensure you remain involved and informed throughout the year.
On Friday 8 May, we’ll be holding our Mother’s Day Stall, where all students have the chance to purchase a special gift for their mum, just in time for Mother’s Day on Sunday 10 May. A heartfelt thanks to Marissa Ritorto and Melinda Sporowicz for their fantastic organisation, and to all the parents who have generously volunteered their time to help students choose and wrap their gifts. Wishing a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mums, grandmothers, stepmums, and maternal figures in our community! Thank you for your love, strength, encouragement, and the countless ways you support our students every day. We hope you feel truly appreciated and celebrated. For those, like myself, who are missing their mum this Mother’s Day, please remember:
“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day—unseen, unheard, but always near.”
This week, you will have received a survey about the Campus Canteen Service. We would really appreciate it if you could take a few moments to share your feedback. The information you provide will help Campus Leaders make decisions about the canteen going forward. Once everyone has had a chance to respond, we’ll share a summary of the results with the community.
Becoming Catholic: Father Mwaura would like to invite Adults to an information session Tuesday 5 May at 6pm at the Parish office, 26 London Road. This is an opportunity to gain information about how to complete your Sacraments in the Catholic faith. Please email Bianca Cotton if you would like to attend or if you would like more information. arishassociate@holyfamliyparish.org.au
While I am on leave for the next six weeks, Melissa Canil will be stepping in as Acting Principal at Nativity. Melissa is looking forward to joining our school community, and I know you’ll make her feel very welcome. I look forward to sharing my travel stories with you all when I return in Week 8.
God Bless.
Erika
