Dear Families

There has been so much wonderful learning and outreach happening across our school community over the past few weeks. It has been fantastic to see our students engaging so deeply in Religious Education, social justice initiatives and sustainability projects.

Religious Education

Our Reception students have been learning all about Pentecost and the importance of symbols within our faith. A huge thank you to Bianca Cotton who kindly spent time with our Reception classes in the church this week, sharing and explaining the many symbols found around the church and helping our youngest learners make meaningful connections to their learning.

In Years 1/2, students have been participating in Godly Play sessions focusing on the Creation Story and have also been learning about the Rosary during this special month dedicated to Mary. It has been wonderful to see students engaging so thoughtfully in prayer and reflection. Thank you again to Bianca for guiding our students with this.

Soup making for the homeless

Thank you so much to all of the families who generously donated soup vegetables to our recent outreach project. The Year 6 Student Leadership Team and I were able to deliver 45 litres of soup to the Moore Street Soup Kitchen. What an incredible display of generosity and compassion from our community! Your donations will help bring warmth and comfort to those doing it tough during these colder months.

The Hutt Street Centre

Today we were privileged to welcome Gill Hicks from the Hutt St Centre who spoke to our Year 3–6 students about those experiencing homelessness and the challenges faced by those sleeping rough in our community. We are incredibly grateful for the time she spent with our students, helping them develop empathy, understanding and compassion for others. A huge thank you again to our very generous families who donated track pants to the Centre to help keep people warm this winter.

Making Nest Boxes

Our Sustainability Leaders have also been busy this week. On Monday afternoon they worked together making nest boxes that will be placed around our school and along Homestead Creek in Aberfoyle Park. These nesting boxes will help protect native wildlife from domestic and feral cats, as well as foxes. Students created boxes suitable for parrots, rosellas, possums and owls. We look forward to joining together with Thiele in the near future to paint the boxes before they are installed.
