Dear Families,
This term, our school-wide global concept is Global Citizenship, with students exploring the question, “How can small actions lead to big changes?”
Across the school, students are discovering how their choices can make a positive difference in their communities and the wider world.
Reception: Small Hands, Big Difference
Our Reception students are learning about special places and how to care for them. Through exploring clean and polluted environments, different types of bins, and everyday choices, they are beginning to understand how even small actions can help look after our world.
Year 1/2: Caring for Our Environment
Year 1/2 students began their learning with a hands-on provocation using rubbish, dirty water, and recycling materials to spark discussion about pollution and caring for the environment. Over the term, they will continue exploring issues such as pollution, climate change, and global warming in age-appropriate ways.
In Music, Year 1/2 students are also exploring how music and movement from different cultures can share stories, build understanding, and inspire change.
Our Early Years students also participated in the Onkaparinga Council’s Every Litter Bit Hurts program, deepening their understanding of litter, dumping, marine debris, and the impact these can have on waterways.
Years 3/4: Connecting Local History to Global Citizenship
In Years 3/4, students are exploring Global Citizenship through history and Indigenous cultures, with a focus on the history of Adelaide and its cultural significance. This learning is helping students make meaningful connections between local stories and broader global perspectives.
Years 5–6: Leading Change Through Action
Years 5/6 began with a provocation about how the Earth has changed over time and are building their understanding of weathering, erosion, and deposition. As the term continues, they will research real-world issues, design projects, and present their ideas in meaningful ways that reflect their learning and growing sense of agency.
Across the school, students are learning that even small actions can make a big difference.
Through Future Focused Learning, our students are not only learning about the world around them—they are also learning how they can help shape it. By nurturing curiosity, connection, communication, and action, we are supporting each child to see that meaningful change often begins with one small step.
I would like to finish with this quote from Mother Teresa…“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” We hope that this is what we are embedding within our students.
