What’s happening in 1/2J
Welcome to Class 1/2J, we would love to share our learning!
Class 1/2J has had a very busy and exciting few weeks filled with lots of wonderful learning experiences across all curriculum areas!
In Visual Arts, students have been exploring different styles of art from around the world. This learning has linked closely with our HASS unit on continents and oceans, allowing students to discover how art can reflect the culture, traditions, and history of different countries. The students have loved learning about artists and artistic techniques from a variety of places across the globe, and they have enjoyed creating their own artworks inspired by these unique styles. It has been fantastic to see their creativity, imagination, and curiosity shine throughout these lessons.
In Science, we have been focusing on Biological Sciences and learning about living things and their environments. Students have been investigating the needs of living things and exploring how animals and habitats are connected. To support our learning, the class had an amazing time on our excursion to the Adelaide Zoo! The excursion gave students a wonderful opportunity to observe animals up close and make real-world connections to what we have been learning in class.
In HASS, students recently participated in a very fun and engaging rotations lesson all about continents around the world. Each activity station focused on different countries, landmarks, cultures, animals, and geographical features from across the continents. The students thoroughly enjoyed moving between the different activities while working collaboratively with their peers. It was wonderful to see such high levels of participation, teamwork, and curiosity during the lesson.
Religion has also been a very special focus in our classroom this term. We have been very fortunate to have Bianca Cotton spending time with our class, sharing her knowledge and guiding students through meaningful learning experiences. Students have particularly enjoyed learning about the Rosary and participating in Godly Play sessions, which have encouraged thoughtful discussion, reflection, and wonder.
After recently concluding our unit on Mary, we have now begun learning about Laudato Si’, Pope Francis, and the importance of caring for God’s creation by keeping our environment clean and healthy. This learning strongly connects with our Inquiry theme, “Small actions can make big changes.” Students have been having important conversations about how even small everyday choices can positively impact the world around us. In Week 5, we were lucky enough to have the local waste management team visit our school to speak with the students about recycling and sustainability. The presentation helped students understand why recycling is so important and taught them many practical ways they can help care for the environment both at school and at home. The students asked thoughtful questions and showed great enthusiasm for becoming more environmentally responsible members of the community. Students also will be given student agency as they are in charge of doing their own research on their chosen topic of climate change and its effects on the environment. They will present their findings in a format of their choice.
In English, we are continuing to work on some amazing story writing pieces. Students have been developing their writing skills with a strong focus on “describing, not telling” to make their stories more engaging and detailed for the reader. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as writers and experimenting with creative vocabulary and descriptive language. We are incredibly proud of the effort students are putting into their writing, be sure to check out some of their fantastic stories!
We are so proud of the hard work, enthusiasm, and positive attitudes our students continue to show each day. It has been wonderful to see them actively engaging in their learning and supporting one another across all areas of the curriculum.
