3/4 Excursion to Adelaide Oval and the Central Market
On Wednesday of Week 9, the Year 3/4 classes enjoyed an exciting excursion to the Adelaide Oval and the Central Market. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to explore some of Adelaide’s most iconic locations and engage in hands-on learning outside the classroom.
We began the day with a guided tour of Adelaide Oval. Students were fascinated as they explored behind the scenes, including a visit to the historic 115-year-old scoreboard. They then entered the cricket players’ rooms and had the memorable experience of walking out onto the side of the oval to the sound of a cheering crowd, which made them feel like real players. Students also had the chance to sit on the benches where players sit during matches and were amazed by the view from the journalists’ room overlooking the oval. Throughout the tour, students listened carefully and asked thoughtful questions, deepening their understanding of the history and significance of the venue.
Following the tour, we walked across the footbridge and through the city to the Central Market. This part of the day gave students the chance to further develop their independence and decision-making skills. In small groups, they were given the opportunity to purchase a cultural lunch. Students embraced the experience, confidently interacting with stall holders and making thoughtful food choices.
At the market, students explored a wide variety of stalls, including fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, and international foods. Many students showed great enthusiasm in trying new foods and flavours, stepping outside their comfort zones. A highlight for many was visiting the lolly shop, which added an extra sense of excitement to the experience. The vibrant atmosphere of the market, combined with the many sights, smells, and tastes, made it a truly engaging experience for all.
Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with rich learning opportunities, new experiences, and lots of smiles. The students represented our school beautifully and should be commended for their positive behaviour and willingness to try new things.
