Young Environmental Leaders Celebrate 10 Years of Mercy Grove
On Thursday, our Young Environmental Leaders had the privilege of hosting the Young Environmental Leaders Day in partnership with Green Adelaide. Seven schools from across the region came together for a wonderful day of learning, collaboration and caring for creation.
The day began with an exploration of the beautiful Belair National Park, where students hiked through the natural bushland, learning about the native plants and animals that call the park home. Along the way, they discovered the important role we all play in protecting our environment and preserving these precious ecosystems for future generations.
Students were also fortunate to hear from a passionate volunteer from the Friends of Belair National Park, who shared fascinating insights into the history of the park, the work of volunteers, and the importance of conservation. A well-earned stop for hot chocolates and toasted marshmallows gave everyone the opportunity to relax, connect with students from other schools, and enjoy the outdoors together.
The highlight of the day was celebrating the 10th anniversary of our Parish’s Mercy Grove. Together, students planted 200 native plants within the grove, creating a lasting legacy that will support local wildlife and contribute to the ongoing restoration of this special place.
It was an inspiring day filled with hands-on learning, teamwork and environmental stewardship. Our students represented the School of the Nativity with enthusiasm, leadership and a genuine commitment to caring for God’s creation.
A heartfelt thank you to our Holy Family Parish for generously organising the plants and providing all of the equipment needed to make this significant planting possible. A special thank you also to Bianca for spending the day with us and helping to make the event such a success. Your support, encouragement and willingness to lend a hand were greatly appreciated by both students and staff.
Thank you also to Green Adelaide for partnering with us to provide such a meaningful learning experience. We look forward to continuing to care for our local environment and watching Mercy Grove flourish for many years to come.
