Term 2 in Kitchen Garden
Term 2 in Kitchen Garden has been very busy, we have enjoyed lessons in both the garden and kitchen this term.
We have harvested foods and replanted our garden for new crops to grow in Winter. Some new plantings have included Spring Onions, Silverbeet, Asparagus, Broad Beans, Strawberries, Thyme, Oregano and Peas. We are hoping these will grow and flourish in our garden so we can harvest and cook with them in Term 3.
In our Garden lessons, we have completed our learning on healthy eating. We understand what a healthy food choice is and how to read nutritional value tables on the back of foods to determine whether it is a healthy food choice. We completed our learning with a fun Healthy Snack Stack picture which are displayed around the Art Room.
In the Kitchen, we have been cooking up many different recipes with lots of different foods that we may not usually consume like beetroot and broad beans. Some of the recipes from this term included Beetroot and Herb Risotto, Broccoli and Cauliflower Fritters, Cannelloni with Ricotta and Broad Bean Filling, Vegetarian Paella and Spinach Wontons. All the recipes have been sent to the classroom teachers and can be found on Seesaw.
Overall, it has been a very busy and exciting Term in Kitchen Garden.
