From the Principal
Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Nativity School
Welcome back! We are looking forward to a term filled with exciting learning opportunities.
Our Year 6 leaders started the term off with a Leadership building day at AFL Max with their 4-quarter leadership program. The 4 quarters are 1. Me-being a better you, 2. Purpose-making a difference to something bigger, 3. Connect-Your journey needs people and 4. Perform-setting high standards is just the beginning. Here are some of their reflections on the program.
Poppy – I really enjoyed the trampolines because we got to try new jumps and play around. I like how we had to work as a team and we had to be leaders to help others build things.
Flynn – I really enjoyed the last 2 quarters of the leadership day because we played football, played a game of dodge ball and got to jump on the super tramps.
Archie – I liked working as a team to build structures in the second quarter.
Alex – I learnt to use communication and problem solve when faced with challenges.
Next week our Year 3 and 4 students will begin creating their Podcasts. Some of the many benefits of podcasting for our students are: Expanding their team building and collaboration skills, Using a design and thinking process, Developing public speaking skills, Empowering student voice and choice by showcasing their learning through the art of storytelling. We look forward to sharing these with you on iTunes soon.
Our Reception to Year 2 students have a visit planned to the Lenswood Pick Your Own Apple Farm where they will experience how an apple orchard operates and gain an understanding of where the food they eat actually comes from.
This term our Global concept for learning is ‘One World’ and our question for learning R-6 is “How can we work together to create a better world?” Classes will explore this through a variety of subject areas and classes will share further learning throughout the term.
Sadly, on Easter Monday Pope Francis passed away. Pope Francis was a global voice for the poor, the young, and the marginalised and inspired the Catholic community to live with courage and compassion. This week our students participated in a liturgy to commemorate the Pope. We prayed: Today we thank you for Pope Francis. He showed us how to be kind, how to care for others, and how to live like Jesus. Now, with happy hearts, we say thank you for all the good he did. We remember his love, and we promise to keep sharing that love with the world.
I am pleased to welcome Catherine Li to our Nativity teaching team. Catherine is an experienced teacher who will be teaching our mid year Reception class. Enrolments are still open for this class if you know anyone who is looking for a place in Reception. There is free tuition in term 3 and 4 for these students. We also warmly welcome Lucius (RK), Georgie (3/4RM) and their families to Nativity this term.
A reminder that we have Learning Conversations next week, you should have received a Learning Conversation booklet with reflections on your child’s learning so far this year and how they are demonstrating the school values of belonging, compassion, justice, courage, forgiveness and gratitude.
Mother’s Day is also quickly approaching and this year we have the Mother’s Day breakfast as well as the Mother’s Day stall on Friday 9th May from 7.45am. Please join us if you can. Special thanks to Ari Torresan for coordinating the breakfast and to all those who have volunteered to help. We will look forward to celebrating the wonderful Mum’s and Grand mum’s of our school community.
God Bless
Erika
